Do I need to provide my own AI service API key?
Yes. OpenClaw Contabo Hosting manages deployment and server operations while you supply your preferred AI credentials. OpenClaw supports Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, and self-hosted alternatives like Ollama for GPU-equipped servers. You will also need platform-specific tokens for each messaging service you connect (WhatsApp Business API credentials, Discord bot tokens, etc.).
How does Contabo VPS deployment work?
You provision a Contabo VPS (we recommend VPS M or higher) and provide us with SSH access. Our platform installs, configures, and maintains your OpenClaw deployment automatically. All your data stays exclusively on your Contabo infrastructure.
What are the minimum Contabo VPS requirements?
We recommend at least the Contabo VPS S plan (4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 200 GB SSD). For running local language models on your server, additional resources or GPU hardware may be needed. The VPS M plan is the sweet spot for most deployments.
What exactly is an OpenClaw gateway?
A gateway is a distinct OpenClaw profile within your deployment. Each gateway operates with its own workspace, identity, and connections — capable of accessing files, running terminal commands, controlling browsers, and connecting to multiple messaging platforms like Discord, Slack, Telegram, and WhatsApp at the same time. You can run multiple gateways on a single Contabo VPS.
Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan?
Yes. You can change your plan at any time. Upgrades and downgrades take effect immediately, with billing adjusted on a prorated basis for the remainder of your cycle.
Is there a long-term contract?
No commitment required. You can cancel your subscription at any time and keep access through the end of your current billing period.
